To Our Home In Bahrain

Life here so far has been great.  My dog had to be in quarantine for one month.  That was really sad, she probably wondered what she had done wrong.  At least it wasn't 6 months like it had been in England.

Yea, Peedee is home
This is her first day here
peedee_inherbed_firstdayhome.jpg (23691 bytes)She was so excited and then she was exhausted and went to her bed for a rest.
We have a couple of cats (orange and white, and calico) in the neighborhood that come by for a visit.
This is the orange oneneighbor_cat.jpg (18928 bytes) She was pretty upset to realize we had acquired a dog and came to take a look at her.  BUT she would not get too close. cat_lookingindoor.jpg (19489 bytes)

Peedee was very interested in the cat Peedee_lookingatcat.jpg (23810 bytes) Peedeeandcat.jpg (22599 bytes)But the cat wanted no part of her.

UPDATE the cats have spread the word, hey they feed ya at this casa ~

I feel so very very lucky to have found a house maid that is wonderful.  Her name is Berlin and she is from Sri Lanka.  She has been working as a domestic most of her life.  She worked in Saudi for one of the royals in the late 80's.  She has 3 children, 2 sons that are here in Bahrain and one daughter that is back in Sri Lanka.

I have not gotten a car here yet ~  I have not decided if I want one.  One of Berlin's friends, Gamagie ( a man who has been here in Bahrain for over 10 yrs and also from Sri Lanka) drives us where we want to go.  He is much cheaper than a taxi and he knows all the back ways and shops and can tell me where to find most anything on the island.  If he doesn't know he finds out.  When we go to the souq with him ~ he will not let me ask the price..he does the bartering.  I am sure he has saved me more than what I pay him to drive us.

These are a few pictures of Berlin with Peedee.  She is really fond of her, I think because all Peedee has to do is look at Berlin and she gives her a treat!

Berlin is a wonderful cook.  We go to the souq and she looks for fresh vegetable and fruits from Sri Lanka.  Then she does wonders with them.  I will be so spoiled I won't want to come back to the states.
This is a photo of her and her son Rohan ~ he is 21 and works at an Italian Restaurant ~  a really nice and polite kido.

One of the young men that works for Mike in Saudi is getting married.  It is so different over there.  They had to go thru a lot of work to get paper work so that they could ride together in a car or go out together, since he is not a relative.  No woman (Arab) is allowed out by herself without a husband, father, brother or male relative.  So anyway, on paper work they are actually married, so they could be together.  BUT they can't live together till after the wedding.  There will be a wedding for friends and family ( we are invited ) and then there will be a private ceremony just for the family.  After that ceremony they can live as husband and wife.  Here is the invitation that we got.  I found it very interesting ~  the bride's name is not even mentioned...just the groom, his father and the father of the bride.

Last weekend we had a lovely time.  We had dinner with a couple from Holland.  It was very interesting ~  They have been here for 2 years.  They both speak very good English plus several other languages.
The next morning we left for the UAE.
Mike had some business meetings and I went along.  Click on next to see our adventure.
