BAHRAIN
~

Yep ~ We
Moved Back For A Year !
It was a wonderful experience and I would have loved to have stayed longer.
Mike worked for a company in Saudi
and we lived in Bahrain. There is a
Saudi causeway, called the King Faisal which is 25 km long (aprox 15
miles). There are about 6 custom stops Mike made on crossing over
and 6 back to Bahrain. It took him about 30 min- 45 min. depending
on the traffic to get from his office home. . When
we lived here in the late 70's Bahrain was about 30 miles long and 10
miles wide. Now with all the reclaiming of land it is now about 48km
by 16km and covering 707 square km (273 sq. miles) The
population in the late 70's was around 235,000 and is now estimated to be
above 707,000. The annual population growth rate is 3.6 % which is one
of the highest in the world and the Central Statistics Organization estimates
the population will reach one million by 2010. When
we lived here before there were just a few "cold stores" (like a
convenience store), a couple of small supermarkets, and about 10 restaurants
~ NOW there are a ton of cold stores, several very nice and big
supermarkets, 4 very large malls and they are building 2 more, and so many
restaurants I can't even begin to count. These
pages take a while to download because of the photos ~ so just give
it a little time. :) Click
