More About Bahrain

Bahrain grows dates, figs, tomatoes, lettuce, guavas, mangoes, bananas, okra, eggplants, garlic, pumpkin and watermelon.  The rest of the food is imported from Cyprus, Greece, Australia, New Zeeland, India, Sri Lanka, the UK, and the states.

There is really quite a lot of things to see here and sightseeing trips to take.  Here are just a few and the handicrafts the locals do

Flora
More than 200 species of flora have been identified 


Birds
There are 26 avian species breed on the island, but more than 265 species of migrant birds have been recorded as Bahrain lies on the spring and autumn migration routes.

Mammals
Bahrain has 13 species of mammals.  They include the Indian grey mongoose, Ethiopian hedgehog, Indian house shrew, 2 species of bats, Arabian sand gazelles, desert hares, lesser jerboas

Reptiles and amphibians
More than 25 species of reptile and amphibian are found in Bahrain.  Eight reptile species are found in gardens and plantations including three snakes, but only one - the sand snake - is poisonous.  

Invertebrates
the total number of species is unknown.  Eighteen species of moth and butterfly have been identified and Arachnids and Orthoptera are well represented.  The most common arachnid is the jumping spider which can leap considerable distances.  There is also the aggressive camel spider, and black widow.
